I was going to have a jeep wrangler with no doors. I would wear denim shirts with a bandana tied around my neck. What can I say? It was the 90s and Jurassic Park had me in a stranglehold. It’s now 30 something years later and I’m a photographer although I don’t travel around shooting wildlife. I value sleeping in my own bed way to much. I owned the Jeep. Mine had doors; safety first kids! And yes, I do sometimes rock a denim button down with a bandana tied around my neck. Alan Grant was really cool. I won’t apologize.
I think it’s rare for anyone to know what they want to do with the rest of their life. It’s even rarer then, for someone to know the exact moment they realized it. For me it was staring at a cover of National Geographic. The photo was gorgeous, but that wasn’t enough. I wanted to know what else was there. What did I have to miss out on because I was this side of the magazine and not the one taking the photo? I spent the next days and weeks conjuring this fully realized image of who I would be when I was a grown up. I was going to be a wildlife photographer. a few fun facts about me
I left the corporate world in April of 2014 to finally chase my photography dream. I had no idea then what was in store for me. Over a decade into this thing I’ve learned what makes the difference between a good photograph and a priceless one. It’s the moment. Years from now we won’t care one bit what we wore or if our arms were toned enough in a photo. We will remember the fun we had and the time spent with the people we love.
